Getting "up there" in Google, is the first thing any new website owner wants to do and asks us to accomplish for them.
The truth is, it is really hard!!! Irrespective of what you read or people tell you about "how they can guarantee a number 1 spot on Google", realistically and economically is hard to achieve and takes a lot of work and time. You may however like to follow those 'guarantee' programs, but they will cost you money!
So why is it so hard?
- Your small business website is now about to compete literally with thousands of other similar businesses.
- Those businesses have been on the net longer than yours.....
- Those competitors (for your Google space), have had the Google search engine run through their website content umpteen times already and Google knows it is there.
- Their content keeps changing and is regularly updated - Google (on it's way through), says "ahh...there's been changes, let me take note of that!"
- Your website needs to have a Site Description, some associated keywords and optimal keyword phrases spread through page titles and throughout each page.
- Google needs to be 'told' that your website is now online, i.e. site submission, Google Analytics etc.
- etc, etc, etc..... there is a lot of work to be done in getting your web rankings "up there".
Much of the above is done when we create your website for you, but there are a number of things you personally can do, to advertise and promote your site to the greater internet world "out there"!
Many of these you may like to do some research on and work through, each will help towards your goal of achieving a higher level ranking on that ever popular search engine!
- article marketing through the free article directories
- create videos on my niche products
- make blog posts in my niche areas
- do press releases for my targeted products
- create free ebook guides on my subject areas
- build separate lists for each major niche market with follow-up emails
- participate in online forums
- make regular 'tweets' about any new content
- find out my competitors' main backlinks and duplicate them
- create Google Alerts for my major keywords and add comments/links to the ones I like
- keep adding fresh content pages to my sites keyworded to phrases used by buyers
Some of those are not so simple, but you can get someone to do them for you, often for a monthly fee.
Article writing is often something that you as the business owner only, can create - after all, nobody knows your business like you do so any web developer will not be able to write content in such a way that you really want your business to be exposed.
As web developers though, getting and keeping your keywords on the first page of Google does take a lot of work and time. For some competitive keywords, it can take up to a year's work to get to those top spots.
Mostly though, building steady one-way quality links back to the page or site I want ranked high involves approaching other like-minded businesses or websites and asking if they will include your website/page link onto their site.
There are exceptions. If you're good at writing articles, you can get immediate traffic and a few sales. Same goes if you're into making videos and they become popular and featured in Google... you will make some sales.
